Show Statement:

A few years ago, I thought I was living the American Dream. Over time, it became clear I was just a cog in someone else’s. I was deep into a career path that slowly drained me of my identity, my time, and my energy. This body of work grew out of leaving that environment. It gets its namesake and inspiration from a poem I wrote during that time, titled Buy Now. The poem became a resignation letter of sorts and a call to action to myself to be more present with the things that bring me real fulfillment, curiosity, and joy.

Through humor, color, and a playful visual language across new experimental paintings and mixed-media sculpture, the work reflects both the relief of my departure from a world that once consumed me and space to mourn the one we are all still forced to consume.

This work represents the realization that in our convenience culture and single-use society, it becomes easy to think of ourselves as single-use as well. I firmly reject that idea. My hope is to show that even in the face of suppressive systems, we can be multiple wonderful things in this life. This is part of a larger desire to create a productive community with one another, not just value for shareholders and clients I’ll never know—often at our own expense.
